John 6:53 Jesus said to them, "I am telling you the truth: if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in yourselves.

Jesus had told the people they should not have worked so hard to search for Jesus just for the free food He could provide for them. He told them to search for the everlasting bread, the spiritual food. Then He told them that He is the bread of life and the living water. The next thing He tells the people is that unless they eat the flesh or drink the blood of the Son of Man, they will not have life in themselves. In this text His showing that He came as a man, with flesh and blood, and sacrificed His flesh and blood to save us from having to pay for our sins with our own flesh and blood.

Jesus said we are to eat of His flesh and drink His blood. All through this whole conversation He keeps saying that by believing in Him and the salvation of His death on the cross we are saved. He even went so far as to say that those who come to Him the Father will not let go. This whole conversation is Jesus trying to get the people to understand the need to believe He is God, who came down to pay the price of their sins by His death. So to eat His flesh and drink His blood is to believe that He came as a man, in flesh and blood and gave His life, His blood to redeem us, to save us, to give us grace for our sins. We don't deserve that grace, but He offers it to us if we only believe. Every day we can eat His flesh and drink His blood by renewing our belief in Him and inviting Him into our lives. It's a daily process.

When we realize how weak we are, how prone to sinful behavior we are, we will daily offer ourselves to Jesus. We will ask Him to forgive us and to walk with us through another day, helping us live our lives as He would want us to. He gave so much and all He asks, is that we believe. He doesn't want to lose any of us. He paid a huge price for us and wants us to live in Heaven with him. All we have to do is just believe. Believe He is God. Believe He gave His life to save us, and let Him walk with us.

If it seem hard to understand how to have a relationship with Someone you can't see, that's okay. Just ask Jesus to close the gap between you and Him. He is more than willing to do so. Spend some time reading the Gospels. Read what Jesus did and said. That's how to get to know Him better. Invite Him into your life. Tell Him you don't know how to be friends with Someone you can't see. He understands. Ask Him to come to you and help you grow close to Him. That's all the invitation He needs. He will be right there, helping your relationship with Him grow. He will help you get to know Him. He's always there. He's always ready to help. You only need to ask.

Now, I told you that you have seen me but will not believe. Everyone whom my Father gives me will come to me. I will never turn away anyone who comes to me, because I have come down from heaven to do not my own will but the will of him who sent me. And it is the will of him who sent me that I should not lose any of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them all to life on the last day. For what my Father wants is that all who see the Son and believe in him should have eternal life. And I will raise them to life on the last day." John 6:35-39
