Matthew 7:12 "Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God's Law and Prophets and this is what you get. (The Message Translation)
Now that we've studied what our attitude should be towards others, we can next look at our behavior towards others, starting with our behavior towards people in general. The Golden Rule in Matthew 7:12 is a good place to start. Another good place to start would be the 10 commandments. Especially the last 6 commandments.
Exodus 20:12-17 :
Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long on the land which Jehovah your God is giving to you.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not testify a witness of falsehood against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male slave, or his slave-girl, or his ox, or his ass, or anything which belongs to your neighbor.
Romans has the perfect follow-up to those commandments:
“Do not continue to owe no one, nothing, except to love one another. For the one loving the other has fulfilled the Law. For, "Do not commit adultery," "do not murder," "do not steal," do not bear false witness, "do not lust," and if there is any other commandment, in this word it is summed up, in the words, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Love does not work evil to the neighbor. Then love is the fulfillment of Law.” Romans 13:8-10
Putting aside our own selfish desires and loving each other as Christ loved us is the answer for getting along with other.
“I give a new commandment to you, that you should love one another; according as I loved you, you should also love one another.” John 13:34
Some people make it difficult to love them, but for those people it's good to pray that we can view them with the same view God has of them. Asking God to love those people through us will allow God to come in our lives, change our perspective of the person and help us show His love for them through our actions towards them.
