Exodus 23:4-5 "If you find your enemy's ox or donkey loose, take it back to him. If you see the donkey of someone who hates you lying helpless under its load, don't walk off and leave it. Help it up.

Matthew 5:43-48 "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your friends, hate your enemies.' But now I tell you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may become the children of your Father in heaven. For He makes His sun to shine on bad and good people alike, and gives rain to those who do good and to those who do evil. Why should God reward you if you love only the people who love you? Even the tax collectors do that! And if you speak only to your friends, have you done anything out of the ordinary? Even the pagans do that! You must be perfect---just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Romans 12:14, 18-21 Bless those persecuting you; bless, and do not curse. If it is possible, as far as is in you, being in peace with all men. Not avenging yourselves, beloved, but giving place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord." Therefore if your enemy hungers, feed him. If he thirsts, give him drink. For in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Loving those who make life difficult for you, or loving those who have hurt you or your family. It's not an easy thing to do. We want to strike out back at the person or we feel justice has been done if the person ends up in a situation where they are suffering also. This is the world's way of thinking, not God's way. Christ demonstrated God's way on the cross. He prayed for the people who put Him on the cross. He asked God to forgive them.

When my husband's cousin was in a hospital with serious injuries, some misinformation came to us stating that the man who hit Nathan's car attempted suicide and was in serious condition himself. We later found out that this information was incorrect. It was someone else in the hospital, not anyone involved in the accident. But when I heard the misinformation my first reaction was to think, “Serves him right!” Somehow it seemed like justice was served. The man was high on drugs when he drove 90mph into Nathan's car. But then a little voice said to me, “If that man died, his death would be very tragic since it may be an eternal death.” That is the most tragic death of all.

If this man continued the path he was on he could still end up killing himself. He needs to know God. He needs to invite God into his life. So, we started praying for him.  He was charged for the accident and the charges were dependent on the outcome of what happened to Nathan. We prayed that this accident and the uncertainty of this man's future would cause him to turn towards God and develop a permanent personal relationship with our Savior.  It was much better than letting the anger eat away inside us.  Pray for those who hurt you.  When you pray, you draw closer to God and He can help you through the hurt.
