Colossians 4:1 And masters, treat your servants considerately. Be fair with them. Don't forget for a minute that you, too, serve a Master--God in heaven.
Just as it is true that employees are to give their best at work, it is also true that the employer should give his best to take care of the employees. The employees are not the only ones whose ultimate boss is God. The employers also serve God. They have to answer to Him also for their actions. Therefore humility is needed in employers also. Everyone is working for the same purpose – to keep the business going. Everyone is under the orders or directions of the same God. There is only one God, so whether you choose to believe in the Creator of the universe or not, you are still under His control.
Employers have a more serious position as they are responsible for taking care of those working for them. This is also true of managers and supervisors. They all have someone who is dependent on them. True, the employee works for their pay, but they do depend on their boss to pay them and pay them fairly. The boss also has a responsibility to make sure they give their employees only what they can handle. That is part of being fair with the employee. A humble and fair employer will care about their employees' health and family. They will also respect the marriage vows and the families of their employees and not do anything to tear down a marriage and family. The employer will be considerate of the employees' time away from their spouse and family. Keeping someone away from their spouse and family 24 hours a day for several days and weeks makes things very difficult for marriages and for the children in the family.
The employer has a duty to take care of those working for him. Whether he's a supervisor who gives a report on those who work under him, or if he's the manager or owner who pays the employees. Because of the seriousness of that responsibility, it is important for the employer to realize he doesn't have all the answers and to spend a lot of time on his knees in prayer. It's the only way to know how to handle those employees and situations that seem impossible.
