1Peter 2:1-2 Therefore, rid yourselves of every kind of evil and deception, hypocrisy, jealousy, and every kind of slander. Like newborn babies, thirst for the pure milk of the word so that by it you may grow in your salvation.
I think the key to these texts is really in verse two. When a person has a thirst for the word of God they will naturally turn their focus on Him. By learning more about God the closer they will grow to Him and the more spiritually mature they will become. The evil, deception, hypocrisy, etc. will all disappear as a natural result of walking closely with our Lord. A person cannot live daily in a close relationship with Jesus and still be full of evil and deception. There is not room for both Jesus and the devil to live in the same person. It is either one or the other.
A person cannot be focusing on Jesus and still have time to worry about the actions of others and become jealous of them. They wouldn't have time for gossip, or back-stabbing. A person who is living their life for God and thirsting after His word will only be interested in serving God. When they are serving God they will devote their time to helping others the way God wants them to, and without any condemnation or criticism towards anyone who dresses or acts differently. Even the church member who is living in error is to be treated with kindness and humility when trying to help them.
Galatians 6:1 Brothers, if a man is overtaken in some deviation,
you, the spiritual ones, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness,
considering yourself, that you not also be tempted.
The idea is to restore the erring one back to God, not rush to kick them out of the congregation. The Church is not a club for beautiful, perfect people. It is for everyone. It is for sinners, which includes every one of us. If we kicked all the sinners out of Church, there would be no one left in the building. God loves all of His children. He wants them all back in a relationship with Him. When one falls away, it is our duty to lovingly bring them back.
1Peter 3:8-9 And finally, all be of one mind, having compassion on one another,
loving the brothers, tenderhearted, friendly.
Never give back evil for evil, or reviling for reviling,
but on the contrary, giving blessing,
knowing that you are called to this so that you might inherit blessing.
Each one of us has the ability to start warming up our Churches. Show love and compassion to each other and never retaliate, no matter how much someone has hurt you. It is the way Jesus lived on this earth and it is the way we are to live if we're following His example.
