Out of all the gifts God gives us, the greatest is Love. Love is permanent. Other spiritual gifts will some day no longer be needed, but love will always be a part of life, on this earth, and on the new earth. Without love, the other gifts have no value at all. For example, the gift of discernment can become criticism if we're not trying to understand another through the eyes of love. The gifts of speaking or writing can become weapons if we're not communicating in love. All the attributes of love impossible without a loving attitude. Paul says love is greater than faith and hope. I believe that is because love must be the motive for all we do as a result of our faith and hope.

It is our acts of love that win souls back to Christ. It is genuine, Christ-like love that keeps marriages together. Love heals emotional and physical hurts. Knowing you are loved can calm nerves, giving a body a chance to heal itself.

The most important of all is that it's God's love for us that saved us and makes it possible for us to have an eternal life. A life without any pain or suffering. And a life where we can finally be in physical contact with our Father in Heaven. God's love for us is permanent. He will never stop loving us.
