Romans 12:10 Be devoted to each other like a loving family. Excel in showing respect for each other.
Hebrews 10:25 We should not stop gathering together with other believers, as some of you are doing. Instead, we must continue to encourage each other even more as we see the day of the Lord coming.
Jesus went to church even when the church leaders didn't like him. He went to church even though He wasn't accepted by the church members or His by own family. Jesus didn't let the actions of others keep Him from attending church. As followers of Jesus, we shouldn't let the actions of others keep us from attending church. Going to church isn't about being with people who will like us and make us feel good. It's not about being entertained by a good lesson study or a good sermon. It's about worshipping God and encouraging each other. It's about loving each other even if someone doesn't like us.
Complaining about church members doesn't solve anything. Complaining becomes a form of gossip, which only harms the person we're talking about and makes our own church look badly to others. Read Numbers 11:1 and see what God did to people who complained.
“The people began complaining out loud to the LORD about their troubles.
When the LORD heard them, he became angry,
and fire from the LORD began to burn among them.
It destroyed some people on the outskirts of the camp.” Numbers 11:1.
God doesn't approve of complaining. When we complain about something, we're complaining about something God created. When we complain about a person, we are complaining about someone God not only created but He also developed plans for them. That person is very special to God. They may be difficult to get along with, but we still need to love them and show them respect. Complaining only makes us as bad as the rest of the world. People complain at work, in the store, at the stoplight, and just about any other place you can think of. Churches should be different. Take a look at Philippians 2:14-15:
“Do everything without complaining or arguing.
Then you will be blameless and innocent.
You will be God's children without any faults
among people who are crooked and corrupt.
You will shine like stars among them in the world”
Philippians 2:14-15.
Notice it says that we will shine like stars as a result of doing things without complaining or arguing over it. We will be different. We will be a bright spot in a dark, unhappy world.
Our responsibility is to testify what Jesus has done for us. To worship and glorify Him. As a family of God we need to be lookig at each other through the eyes of God. With His help we will love, respect, and encourage each other. That is what being a Christian family is about. Living and treating other as Christ did.
