1Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit in you, whom you have of God? And you are not your own,

My husband and I were reading about God's instructions, to Moses, on how the temple was to be built. There were no simple instructions that said to just build a temple so they could have a place to worship. God was very specific on how it was to be designed, what types of materials were to be used, and how the temple was suppose to be used. I was amazed at the detailed instructions God gave.

While I was listening to Kevin read about it, I thought of the text above. I can't help but think that if God considered our bodies as temples, then He must feel that how we take care of our bodies is very important. Not only what we put in our bodies, but how clean we keep them, what we put on them, and how we maintain them including exercise and rest. Neither Kevin or I are careful with our bodies so it has given me something to think about.

The text in Corinthians also says we're not our own. The next verse says, “for you are bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.” If the temple Moses was building was so important that God had detailed instructions for it, then how much more important it is for us to take care of our bodies.

God paid such a high price for our lives and He wants us to glorify Him in our bodies and spirit. Which means to keep our bodies and minds clean and healthy.

This is much easier done if we ask God to come into our lives and help us clean things up. If we wait to have things cleaned up before inviting God, we'll never get around to inviting Him in. Invite Him first, the rest will follow.
